Vethathiri Maharishi says, "From the day Ramalinga Vallalar appeared and showered his grace on me, I have surrendered my body, life and consciousness to the services of the Divine and my karmas or imprints of past actions have been purified.
Today my mental attitude is to surrender and to do whatever Vallalar indicates me to do. I get the friendship of many good people in this mission. "In these words, we can feel the impact of Vallalar on Maharishi.
In 1985, at Vadalur, Maharishi explained about Vallalar's Philosophy of Divinity in his lecture. He said: Vallalar contributed the great mantra, "A rut Perum Jothi Thani Per um Karunai" (Great Light of Grace with unique Great Mercy). "Arul" means Divine Grace.
Grace is the light which drives out the darkness of ignorance. "Jothi" or light thus means wisdom. That light, as intuition, which is as of the nature of the total intelligence, explains about the entirety of the Universe.
1) It explains about the source of the Universe.
2) Process of its transformation
3) Its functioning
4) The stage of evolution of each person. What he should do and where he should go etc.
So, the phrase" Arut Perum Jothi" indicates that with realising the Divine state and Nature, the knowledge becomes total. The phrase shows the greatness of total consciousness.
The base of consciousness is Brahman. The centre of consciousness is the life-force, and its extension is mind. These are called "Sat", "Chit", "Anand" respectively. Vallalar describes" sat" with the phrase" Arut Perum Jothi (Great Light of Grace). It is the Truth. The self, due to the surge of "I" and "mine" transforms into attachment to power("I") and attachment to materials ("mine). So people are afflicted by the six emotional moods of greed, anger, misery, immoral sexual passion, vanity and vengeance.
